The birth of the brand

Imagine a gourmet journey

For the first time in French gastronomic history, three major regions, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, have joined forces to launch a new tourist destination dedicated to gastronomy and the discovery of local wines and products: la Vallée de la Gastronomie - France®. It is natural for these three regions ranked in the top 4 Michelin-starred regions in France.

Just like the National 6 and National 7, a symbol of holiday departures and now world-famous since the great starred chefs have established their restaurants there, La Vallée de la Gastronomie® highlights this ancient Roman road. It represents a synthesis of the agricultural, gastronomic and wine-growing wealth of the three regions and the confirmation of a shared passion for excellence. Come and enjoy personalised gourmet experiences in a diverse and high-quality landscape and heritage setting.

The search for difference, novelty and escape, and the quest for authenticity are all tourist aspirations meeting visitors’ expectations. The traveller attempts to go beyond the practices of classical tourism, which consist in following established circuits. Henceforth, he favours experiences that he will identify as authentic because they touch on real life and the profound reality of a territory and its history.

The ambition of the brand

To offer a selection of remarkable gourmet experiences designed to highlight the outstanding diversity of these four territories by responding to the quest for authenticity of today's travellers.

This discovery quest, which pushes us to go beyond a standardised offer so that everyone can make their own experience, is nourished by values such as :

  • The sharing of excellence, know-how, and experiences.
  • Conviviality between professionals and visitors, between visitors from here and elsewhere.
  • Generosity through the gift of knowledge, the quality of the welcome, and the generosity of this region give us quality products every season.

As far as the territory is concerned, this search for authenticity is based on everything representing the expression of a population's identity, traditions, and what allows it to showcase its culture, heritage, and history. The idea is to guarantee the typicality of the territory, opposing the standardisation inherent in mass tourism.

All these values are the guarantees of an exceptional experience. The tourist emerges with the impression of having been disoriented and having better understood the territory he or she has visited because he or she has established contact with the local population. “I experienced it! “ could be the true synthesis of this quest for authenticity to which this new tourist destination aspires to respond.

Sharing passion and excellence

The development of this new tourist offer is unique and embodies a strong ambition to become a flagship gourmet destination of international importance.

In addition to offering a simple tourist experience, this initiative is also intended to federate the network of local stakeholders by bringing together these "creators of taste": craftspersons, farmers, winegrowers, restaurateurs and tourist operators will carry loud and clear the reputation of the "French Gastronomic Meal", listed as a UNESCO World Heritage List.

La vallée de la Gastronomie® is a unifying force for all sectors. It is also a powerful lever for economic development and a global showcase for the attractiveness of the three regions it crosses and of France in general.

International outreach

To establish itself in the French tourist landscape, the destination will offer a selection of quality products that will initially appeal to local tourists, French families looking for cultural awareness, young people with a passion for gastronomy, etc.

In a constant effort to maintain quality and highlight local know-how, the 3 regions that initiated the project aspire to expand the range of experiences and offers by 2025.

Over the next 5 years, this ramp-up will help promote La vallée de la Gastronomie® in France and beyond on an international scale. It will become an essential French tourist spot attracting families seeking a gourmet stopover on their way south, as well as curious Europeans living nearby and visitors from all over the world in search of the French art of living.

Discover a land of plenty

From Dijon and its continental influences to Mediterranean Provence, including Lyon, the Saône and the Rhône carve a path through the terroirs creating a great diversity of landscapes with a succession of vineyards, orchards and pastures.

For thousands of years, this corridor of influences has allowed products to circulate, ideas to be exchanged, and people to meet: craftspersons, restaurateurs, farmers, and winegrowers are taking over from traditions to ensure that they continue to extract the best from their terroirs.

A historical territory of abundance and excellence, La vallée de la Gastronomie® combines a selection of multi-sensory offers, which, along with the terroirs, proposes an exceptional diversity of products, experiences and know-how. From North to South, from visiting the wine estates of Burgundy to tasting the authentic flavours of Calisson and discovering the secret of truffles, the visitor to La Vallée de la Gastronomie® is offered a wide range of encounters with the passionate men and women who cultivate, develop and cook the treasures of French gastronomy.
