Here you can see the thermal baths, workshops, homes and shops unearthed since 1967. The museum is divided into four areas: the history of Vienne in Antiquity, the economy and crafts, mosaics and daily life in the Roman home. The restoration workshop is in charge of preserving the mosaics. It is internationally recognised for the quality of its work.
All through the year, you can see the permanent collections during themed visits and children's workshops. Each year, the museum hosts temporary exhibitions and musical activities, storytelling and exceptional events, such as the Gallo-Roman Days and the Vinalia (Roman grape harvest).

Day 3

Vienne > Condrieu
Cheese and wine tour in the nothern part of cote du rhone
Close to Lyon, here you can explore a world of authenticity and sharing. You will go through Ampuis, a charming village and the birthplace of Côte-Rôtie wine, with the River Rhone on one side and the vineyards on the other. In the village of Condrieu, you will climb (in a minibus) the steep slopes of one of the oldest winemaking areas in France. Little winding roads will take you up to a typical farm in the Pilat Regional Nature Park for an encounter with a goat's cheese maker. This dedicated farmer will show you round his farm (if his work is not too hectic, of course) and will introduce you to the famous Rigotte de Condrieu, a small goat's cheese with a subtle and delicate taste! You can then set off with a few delicious cheeses to taste in a winery next door.

During a quick tour of the vineyards, you can get to know the work of a winemaker, with everything done by hand, from pruning to harvesting. The grapevines grow on steep hillsides with excellent exposure to sunshine and rich and diverse natural conditions. You will really only appreciate all the aromatic richness of these great wines during a tasting. The greatest wines in our region, Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu and Saint-Joseph, are a real treat for the taste buds!

Roman Theatre
The terraced seating in the Roman Theatre was built against the steep slopes of the Pipet hill. Its capacity for around 13,000 spectators made the Vienne theatre one of the biggest urban theatres in the Roman Empire and the second largest in Gaul after the theatre in Autun. In the 2nd century, the Odeon, a second, smaller theatre was built nearby on the southern slope of the Saint-Marcel ravine.

Its layout and general organisation followed the Latin models for a stone theatre, even though its location on the hillside gave rise to some specific features. Spectators could move through the rounded, arched galleries that formed the structural support for the terraced seating in the cavea.

Theatres were an expression of the civic and sacred community in the Roman world. They were not only used for entertainment (comedies, tragedies, pantomimes, various kinds of acts, dancing, combats), but could also be the venue for civic or official events.

After restoration work to the theatre, the summer programme now features events reviving the theatre's entertainment role: opera, pop, dance and, since 1981, the Jazz à Vienne Festival in the first half of July.

Day 4

Condrieu
Mouton Père & Fils
This father and son duo created the vineyard together, led by their shared passion for the grapevines and wine. Their motto was "Togetherness, experience and innovation to create top-quality wine."

At the Domaine Mouton, the work done is serious and dignified, respecting the land and the yields on steep slopes where the Syrah and Viognier grapes
draw their strength.

Jean-Claude and André have always worked hard to get the very best out of this grape variety without distorting it, preserving its full character, seeking out the fruit, without ever losing sight of its particular characteristics.
